enFAMILIA, Inc. was created to provide Art education and Educational programs to help improve and preserve family life. South Dade is located at the southernmost end of Florida, about 30 miles south of metropolitan Miami. This region is partially rural and includes Homestead, Florida City, and the unincorporated areas of Leisure City and Naranja. The industry in South Dade is primarily agricultural (row crops) or agricultural-related (landscaping businesses, plant nurseries), attracting a large population of migrant and seasonal farmworkers. The South Dade farmworker workforce has changed significantly in the past fifty years; in the 1960’s it was almost exclusively Mexican immigrants, it now includes Guatemalans, Salvadorians, Haitians and African Americans, among other ethnic groups. Although enFAMILIA’s current base of operations is small, its outreach into the South Dade community has made an impact. Since its incorporation in 2000, enFAMILIA has worked in collaboration with forty-two (42) groups that include faith-based organizations, social service agencies, academic and art institutions. These partnerships have allowed enFAMILIA to provide over 240 school children with art education annually, as well as 1,500 adults with marriage and family education training. enFAMILIA founders, Carlos Salgado and Rocio Tafur-Salgado, currently manage and conduct all programs. Carlos has an MFA from the University of Miami and was a certified Art school teacher for over ten years.  Rocio is a Mental Health Counselor with an MS in clinical psychology from Carlos Albizu University and a Certified Family Life Educator for over 20 years experience. Carlos and Rocio have extensive experience working with migrant families and farmworkers in Colombia, Mexico and the Deep South Dade area.

The  Art Program targets disadvantaged families from low socio-economic status in Deep South Dade, and all its activities are free of charge. Program costs and consultation fees are usually covered by partnering non-profit agencies, who are generally funded by grants to contract with enFAMILIA, Inc.  During the summer of 2003 and 2004, enFAMILIA successfully developed and implemented a two week art camp program, for local student ages 11-15. enFAMILIA contacted the services from CLAY and The Julliard School’s students, New York City, NY., along  with  the Artsouth center Homestead, Fl. In addition, in the summer of 2004, enFAMILIA added a second phase to the art program; it was in collaboration with 8 local community agencies.
